a path to inner perception

I spend a lot of my life looking for something. The next task. The next answer. The next thing that needs fixing, planning, improving, or figuring out.

When everything is brightly lit, it's easy to keep scanning for what's missing. But something shifts when the lights are low. The room softens. The edges blur. There is less to take in and less to react to. Suddenly, I see things I might have overlooked before — the feeling of my breath, the weight of my body in the chair, the fact that I havent taken an actual breath in hours.

I often arrive on my mat with expectations too. I want clarity. I want calm. I want to feel different than I did when I walked in.

Sometimes those things happen. Sometimes they don't. More often, the practice simply shows me what's already here.

Maybe I'm tired or distracted. Maybe I'm carrying more than I realized.

Maybe I'm actually okay and just haven't slowed down long enough to notice.

Sometimes turning the lights down is enough, and the gift is simply seeing yourself a little more clearly.
